Training a Pitbull using the Clicker Training Method

When training a pitbull, you can use various techniques.

One technique used, is the clicker training method.

Clicker Training method with Pit Bulls
One thing is certain - there is not a dog on earth, including deaf and blind dogs that can not be trained using marker/clicker training method. Through this time-tested method, dogs are trained to obey basic commands like sit, down, come, wait, lie, walk, run and heel.

Deaf and blind dogs can be trained using a light flash for the click. Hand signals are also very effective with deaf dogs. Once your dog understands to obey the commands, then phase out the clicks/markers and rewards. Make sure to have fun, be consistent and enjoy the training time you spend with your Pitbull.

Obedience Training In Dogs

protection work dogs
Once basic Obedience training is completed, you may want to move on to more advance training methods. This German Shepherd is shown training in protection work.
Obedience dog training is a an important factor in raising dogs correctly and takes patience from the owner. Dog Obedience training can have many great benefits for both the dogs and the owners. This includes basic commands that will make day to day life easier for the dog and owner, as well as potential life saving commands such as if your dog were to run into the street. Dogs cannot make connections between events that are separated in time. As an owner you need to immediately react to their actions to help them understand whether it was appropriate or not. For example if a dog soils the floor, he needs to be caught while doing it and reprimanded. If you wait until after cleaning and then go and shout at him when he is having a quite time, he will get confused. To avoid this situation all together, crate training your puppy is the best solution.

Dogs are way smarter than we give them credit for and can learn a large array of obedience skills. What we teach our dog will depend on our lifestyle and interests. We should always remember that dogs will be dogs and certain inherent characteristics can never be overridden. However obedience training goes a long way in enriching our relationship with our mongrels. It is one of those extra miles we walk to create a perfect home with these furry creatures that go on to become an important part of our lives.

What Is an American Mastiff Bandog

The Life Expectancy of the American Mastiff Dog
Life expectancy of the American Mastiff Bandog is around 10 years. Although with a healthy diet and exercise the dog may live beyond the estimated time frame.

American Mastiff Puppies
Temperament
The Bandog is extremely intelligent and can be very docile yet confident. It needs to have an owner that remains dominant over them. Although they are not bred as fighting dogs if they have an owner that is passive and not dominant who knows how to deal with their aggression they may become more aggressive over time.

They will become upset if left alone for any length of time and do not do well if left in kennels. If left alone they may become aggressive. They are happy with attention from their owners and will gladly protect them, and many people get these types of dogs for the protection factor, they do need someone who can remain dominant over them, this is an important factor to consider especially if you are not assertive and more passive, then this type of dog may not be the right choice for you.

Overall with the American Mastiff Bandog you will have a good and loyal companion who will protect and serve you if they are taken care of properly and the owner is the dominant figure in their lives. They are fun to own and easy to maintain with the proper care, nutrition and exercise. Dog sports are an excellent way to exercise your dog. Also, for proper nutrition, you must feed your dog the right dog foods. A good start would be finding out what is in dog food before you choose the right food.

What Is an American Mastiff Bandog and How Do You Care For Them

The Breed
The American Mastiff Bandog is not a purebred animal; it is a cross between an American Pit Bull Terrier and a Neapolitan Mastiff. It is a very active animal and thus requires an owner who can be dominant over it. This breed is not recommended for a first time dog owner as it can be aggressive and needs someone that knows how to handle their instincts and aggressive behavior.

"American Bandog Mastiff"

The origin of the word Bandog is used in a generic sense for any type of bulldog and Mastiff breeds. This type of breed is very muscular and has an athletic and agile build. Many breeds are black brindle in color but some can be red, blue, tawny or black.

Height and Weight
  • The male can range between 100-140 pounds
  • The female can range from 85 pounds up
  • The height of the male can range between 25-29 inches
  • The female is smaller than the male.
Exercise
The American Mastiff Bandog needs a great deal of exercise and would do well with someone who has a lot of space available to them so that the dog can run or walk. Although they have been known to live in apartments with their owners it is fairly inactive in smaller spaces and need an owner who can give them the proper exercise on a daily basis.

Grooming
Like the American Bully dog Breed, this breed of dog is short haired. However, unlike the American Bullies they Mastiff does shed moderately. They can be groomed with a rubber brush to remove the loose hair and dead skin. This should be done on a regular basis to avoid a lot of the shedding that they may produce.

Working out your dog - Building Muscle In Pitbulls

There are many ways to work your dog out that can be both fun for the owner as well as the dog.  When working your dog out, you want to make sure the temperature isn't too cold or too hot. You also want to make sure they have plenty of fluids and are well rested. Failure to follow these simple rules can result in serious injury to your dog or even possibly a heat stroke. If you dog is participating in any type of weight pulling, it's recommended that they are fully matured.
Shown at this weight pulling for dogs event, this pit bull is pulling a cart on a gravel track. A cinder block is weighed at the begging of the event, and each additional block added is multiplied to find out the exact weight the dog is pulling. In some events bait is allowed (Such as a toy, treat, or piece of food). However, bait is not allowed in all weight pulling events. Each event has different rules on what they allow and do not allow.
Weight pulling is an excellent way to build muscle in dogs. Your dog can pull weights by using a weight sled that attaches to the dog's harness. You can also use carts that have weight added to them if you prefer another method. In weight pulling events there are a number of ways they have the courses set up. While some use sleds on grass, other courses have wheels on a dirt track. In some cases they use sleds on snow as well.

The world record for the most weight pulled is currently held by Most Weight Pulled on a Cart: Tim Cunningham & Mary Johnson's dog "Brady" (GSMD). This dog pulled an outstanding weight of 3,510 pounds. This record is held in the iron dog international weight pulling league.

Building muscle in dogs can be done by giving your dog the right dog supplements such as Bully Max. Bully Max is veterinarian designed and recommended for all breeds of dogs ages 7 weeks and older.
