John P. Colby (1875-1941) started breeding his own line of American Pit Bull Terriers starting in 1889. He acquired the best dogs he could find from both England and Ireland. They were brought here by immigrants on boats to ports as Boston, Portsmouth, Ma, NH as well as New York. The bloodline know as Colby Pit Bulls has been bred since this period of time.
Now, in 2011, over 116 years later, this bloodline is well known worldwide for conformation, it's temperament, as well as gameness. These dogs are extremely athletic and are great with people of all ages. Breeders that have been around for some time would immediately recognize a "Colby dog" when they seen it.
